Bridging ACE and the Belém Gender Action Plan: Local Solutions for just and inclusive climate policy
Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) is most effective when it is rooted in local realities and driven by the people most affected by climate change. Across the Global South, youth and children, women and gender diverse people as well as and local communities are leading innovative, gender-responsive approaches to education for sustainable development with a focus on climate education, participation and action. This event will explore what ACE looks like in practice, the lessons emerging from the frontlines and how local solutions can inform negotiations and German climate policy.
Youth participants from the Children’s and Youth Environmental Rights Lab will present their findings and their demands. Additionally, the demands for ACE negotiations will be presented. We will then explore the synergies between ACE and the Belem Gender Action Plan and how they can drive the implementation of the action plans. Further, we will reflect on Germany's role in advancing inclusive and locally led ACE through international cooperation. Guiding questions:
How can ACE be effectively implemented in practice?
What role does ACE play in promoting the active and equal participation of young people, gender diverse people and local communities from the Global South and North in climate processes?
What are the connections between ACE and gender justice?
What can we learn from the Belém GAP for the ACE negotiations?
